I come from Pakistan, a developing country. Pakistan, however it still stumbles in the >100th rank in terms of GDP, despite its richness in natural resources. Realizing this, Pakistani government and civilians start to build their beloved country, and one of our endeavors is to modernize our electrical technologies. Because we (Pakistanis) believe that modernizing our electrical technologies will increase our industrial efficiency, and in the end, it will help Pakistan to break the "third world country" title, and become one of the prosperous countries in the world.
In order to assist my country, I have decided to take my bachelor degree into the next level, and start a Master degree in the field of Electrical Engineering Emphasis as my next target. Because I am sure that obtaining a master degree in this field of study will help me to gain a solid competence in the world of Electrical Engineering. And after the completion of my master degree, I really want to continue my study for the doctoral degree in the same field of study (and also a couple years of research after the completion of my doctoral studies), before I go back to my homeland and contribute to my country.
It is unarguably true that as long as we have the integrity to do something, we will always produce a good result in the end. But we can't neglect the fact, that the better the environment, the better the result we can get. In relevance with that, I have decided to undertake my graduate studies in a place that not only has a solid curriculum to fulfill my academic needs, but also has a great environment and reputation in the field of engineering.
I am interested with the courses that are being offered by Xi'an Jiaotong University Master’s Program of Electrical Engineering because this is where the future is headed and I can learn a lot from these courses. Xi'an Jiaotong University not only offers me the important courses in the field of Electrical Engineering, but also offers me the courses that will answer my additional questions.
In term of engineering environment, Xi'an Jiaotong University is well known for its strong University-and-Industries relationship, not to mention that China is a country that has a great reputation in the field of sciences and engineering. That is why I believe that doing my graduate studies in Xi'an Jiaotong University will be a huge benefit for me, because it has all of the factors that I am searching for: solid curriculum, solid tradition in engineering, and great environment to do my master and doctorate studies.
I personally think that I will be a suitable candidate for Xi'an Jiaotong University Master’s Program of Electrical Engineering, because I have solid knowledge in engineering. I graduated from one of the best Technological Institute in my homeland (National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences), and have demonstrated my solid skills and capabilities in Electrical Engineering during my bachelor's study with GPA of 3.06 (scale of 0-4, with 4 as the highest). I also got an A for my undergraduate's final project (Design and Implementation of a Pure Sine Wave Inverter Using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation).
I will be grateful if I can be accepted to enroll in Xi'an Jiaotong University Master’s Program of Electrical Engineering because it will give me a lot of benefit, with doing state of the art researches and theses in Electrical Engineering field of study. The master's program offered by the School of Electrical Engineering helps the students to gain knowledge and skills in a selected electrical engineering field that matches their interest, and to build solid foundation for a successful career as a professional engineer in a wide industrial or academic range. In this program, the students will develop their analyzing, designing and experimental abilities through courses, labs, project studies, and independent research.
2. Length of study
The full-time scheme lasts for two years, consisting of four academic semesters.
3. Program description
Each student will be under direct supervision of a faculty member, who helps to make an education plan for the individual student within the first semester according to her or his researching interest. Firstly, a variety of classroom subjects are provided to the students in mathematics, computer science, and other fundamental fields of electrical engineering to build their strong theoretical background; secondly, more specialized courses and laboratory units are introduced to the students to learn up to date issues of interest in specific EE research areas and useful techniques that equip them well for further work; thirdly, each student carries out research independently and completes her or his thesis.
4. Program Overview
All courses in the Master’s program of Electrical Engineering will be taught in English. Each student will be under direct supervision of a faculty member, who helps to make an education plan for the individual student within the first semester according to her or his researching interest. Lessons will be conducted through lectures, interactive discussions, laboratory experiments, independent research and group projects.
The two year full-time program comprise of four semesters. Students typically complete all coursework requirements by the third semesters. In their last semester, students will engage in thesis writing.

Electrical Engineering College of Xi;an Jiaotong University set the earliest Electrical Engineering discipline of Chinese higher education. It is one of the Electrical Engineering Colleges who has complete second-class discipline setting, strong teacher strength, and advanced laboratory equipment. Our college is called the important base of talent training and research innovation, which enjoys a high academic status internationally.
6. Educational Objectives
The program aims to equip graduates with:
a. The intellectual skills and theoretical understandings appropriate to the study of Electrical Engineering at postgraduate level;
b. Students will develop their analyzing, designing and experimental abilities through courses, labs, project studies, and independent research.
c. Improve their abilities by individual or group research project in which each student has defined role and responsibility.
d. The project leading to the thesis enables the students to combine course studies with practical experience and to develop comprehensive engineering capabilities.
The program of study must be well balanced, emphasizing one or more of the theoretical or experimental aspects of electrical engineering.
At least 32 credits are required to get the graduation certification. The detailed credit requirements for each course modules and thesis work are shown in the following table.
The master's degree of Electrical Engineering School requires the completion of a satisfactory thesis. The thesis will be based on an individual or group research project in which each student has defined role and responsibility. The project leading to the thesis enables the students to combine course studies with practical experience and to develop comprehensive engineering capabilities.

10. Description of Curriculum
This is an introduction course to the Power Electronics discipline and is lectured in English. The objective is to develop understanding of power semiconductor devices and power conversion techniques as for electric power processing and control. The typical power semiconductor devices include power diode, thyristor, Power MOSFET, and IGBT. Understanding of the basic physics of operation, major characteristics, drive and protection circuits of these devices is necessary. Understanding the topologies and operation principles of various power converters (including rectifiers, inverters, DC-DC converters, AC-AC converters, AC-DC-AC frequency changers, and isolated DC to DC switching power supplies) and understanding basic Pulse Width Modulation techniques and soft-switching techniques is the focus part of this course. Basic circuit calculation and design for rectifier circuits and simple DC-DC converters is also required.
Microprocessors and Microcomputers
The course content is divided into three parts. Part I is the microcomputer control system and its applications. This part introduces the principle of MCS-51 series microcontroller, the instruction set, the assembly language programming, the C51 program design method, the process channel, the application program design and the microcomputer control system design. Part II is the industrial computer networks and applications. This part introduces the functions and the characteristics of a variety of industrial computer networks, the local standards and the applications of the industry computer networks. Moreover, Part II focuses on the features and applications of the PROFIBUS field bus control network. Part III is the programmable logic controller (PLC) and its application. This part introduces the basic working principle and function of PLC. Based on the Siemens SIMATIC S7-200, Part III focuses on, the PLC configuration, the program design, the communication networks and the engineering processes of a PLC control systems.
Dielectric Physics for Electrical Insulation
Dielectrics are a class of materials that have an exceedingly low conductivity and are therefore used to isolate high voltage conductors from the environment or to store charge and hence energy in the form of capacitors. The course will explore the physical, morphological, and chemical reasons behind these useful electrical properties. These include the interface between the dielectric and electrodes, the way in which charge carriers move in the dielectric and the influence of space charge upon the current. The effectiveness of dielectrics as insulators and capacitors is limited at high fields by a number of possible failure mechanisms. These will be described and shown to yield critical fields or potentials beyond which the dielectric will be damaged and no longer perform the desired function. A number of mechanisms may also occur at service stresses (5-50MV/m), which cause deterioration of the dielectric properties and eventual failure. These will also be discussed during the course.

HSK(above new HSK 5) and IELTS (above IELTS Band 5.5) transcript, or English Proficiency Certificate issued by applicant’s university.
