The Theory of Potential Controlled Flotation of Sulfide Mineral and Its Application

The project of "The theory of potential controlled flotation of sulfide mineral and its applicatin" had been fulfilled by department of mineral engineering of CSU.

The theory of potential controlled flotation of sulfide mineral has been set up in detail by means of electro chemistry, quantum chemistry, energy band theory of semiconductor, dynamics of electrode process and flotation theory. The theory bring froth new ideas, which are The mechanismsof electron transfer in flotation system and the energy band model of electrochemistry of sulfide mineral flotation.

Based on theory of potential controlled flotation of sulfide mineral, the potential controlled flotation technology, i.e. original potential flotation (OPF) technology, has been invented, and made the flotation of sulfide ore have a development. It can be estabalished the flotation system of three parameter control consist of potential of pulp (Eh), pulp pH value and concentration of collector. Original potential flotation (OPF) technology, which controls potential by chemical atmosphere resulted from various redox reactions in grinding-flotation system, but neither through the use of redox reagents nor through the application of potentials from an external source. The technology had used in 15 Mines of China, including Fankou Lead-Zinc Mine of Guangdong Province, Nanjing Xixia Lead-Zinc Mine and the company of Beishan Mine of Guangxi Province. It get industrial application to obtain four hundreds millon yuan ecomomic benefits in many mills in China. Also it can increase the recovery of mineral source, drop the consumption of flotation reagent, reduce the number of flotation equiments and lower thecost of electric energy, and lighten the pollution of flotation reagent to environment.

Family Collection and Gene Cloning of Human Hereditary Sensorineural Deafness

The project of family collection and gene cloning of Human hereditary sensorineural deafness was completed by Prof. Jiahui Xia and his colleagues. In 1996, he created a new method "Gene family-candidate disease gene cloning", which is based on homology analysis in silicon, evolution theory and the Human Genome Project information. To date, he has identified ten novel genes relative to human hereditary diseases, which are enrolled in GenBank. In 1998, he identified a novel human deafness gene GJB3, which was the first disease gene identified in China, and the paper was published in famous academic journal Nature Genetics. Now the presymptomatic diagosis and antenatal diagnosis of the deafness have been established by the group in order to prevent the inheritance to offspring.

The group is the first group begun the genetic resource collection and reservation in China. The database for Human Genetic Disease families of China was established in 1996 and a network for family collection around China was also set up. So far, blood samples of 590 families with 36 types of genetic disease have been collected from 18 provinces, and relevant 3327 DNA samples and 453 cell lines are reserved. The abundant genetic resource is benefit to gene cloning. In May 1998, a conference "the Investigation and Collection of genetic resource in Project 863" was convened in our university. It has facilitated the investigation, collection, reservation and utilization of genetic resource in China.

Development and Application of Intelligence, Personality and Neuropsychological Tests

"The Development and Application of Itelligence, Personality and Neuropsychological Tests" was accomplished by the Research Center for Clinical Psychology led by professor Yaoxian Gong. The research in this center started in 1979,during the past 20 years, 11 kinds of foreign psychological tests have been revised for Chinese, 10 kinds of new tests have been developed, including 11 set of intelligent tests, 3 set of personality tests, 7set of neuropsychological tests, which filled the blank in psychological tests in China. During the process of development, some technological difficulties have been overcome. For instance, the influence of the differences of cultural background, the influence of the differences between countryside and city. National wide stratified sampling method has been used in order to control factors which may affect tests, which has enhanced the adaptability of the tests for the diversity of the population and the regions.Special design in intelligent tests has resolved the age continuation issue. The computerized analysis system has been developed for most of the tests. The research was a ground break event in intelligent theory and innovate in technology, successfully resolved for assessment for human brain function for various age, culture and races in China. All above work made the technology level of the development of intelligent, personality and neuropsychology in oue country can compete with U.S. and England. The research has resulted in 131 papers, 20 of them have been published in international jourals, 6 of them were included by SCI, 300 papers or times have been cited by related journals. The application of the tests resulted in 542 papers, the tests have also been used in 5 national wide investigaton of health qualith.

Application: Entrusted by the Ministry of Health in 1979, the first national workshop for psychological tests has been hold, so far 70 workshops has been hold, more than 3000 participants,200 diploma students have been trained and 31 graduated student for master degree and PH.D. have been trained. 7735 sets of tests have been spread to all over the country, which greatly promote the develoment of the clinical psychology in China.

Railway Ticket Selling and Booking System in China

As one of the chief undertakers, Professor Shi Feng has joined the research team of a national "ninth-five-year-plan" key scientific and technological project titled "Railway Ticket Selling and Booking System in China" which has took dozens of research units and hundred of scientific researchers and technicians four years' joint effort to satisfactorily achieve the targets of system developing, popularizing and constructing.

The general structure of the system consists of three levels: national center, local center and railway station. The system has adapted three-levels system structure of client/middle ware/servers and open operation system, data management system and communication protocol and realized the consistence of basic data of the nationwide railways and the distribution maintenance and management of dynamic data by using target-oriented modern programming tool and using replication servers technology for the first time at home and aboard. Also, the self-developed connective transaction management system (CTMS), data base communication system (DBCS) and a series of safely technologies has clearly, simply and efficiently realized the instant transition of transaction and reliable transmission of production data up to kilomega per day on multi-platform database of three levels. Ticket selling application software version 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 has been developed and popularized successively.

With a high starting-point of technology by using the latest of the 90's and in accordance with the actual situation of the country and its railways, the self-developed system has its own intellectual property and takes the lead of the technology of its kind all over the world. The system has been widely used in more than 700 railway stations with more than 85% of the tickets sold from all the railway stations in China and 90% of the total ticket income. A national ticket center and 24 local ticket centers have been built and buying ticket from another city in China has been fulfilled. In the past three years, the system has not only enabled the railway ticket income to increase RMB 17.3 billion Yuan but also laid a solid foundation for various flexible forms of ticket selling, checking and inquiry such as internet ticket agent, phone booking, internet booking, self-service, automatic checking and internet E-transaction of ticket. It has greatly put forward the technology progress of railway industry.
