BJTU has a faculty and staff of over 2,800 members (including 10 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 800 professors and associate professors), 14,000 undergraduate students, 6,000 master's students and 2,000 Ph.D. students. In addition, there are nearly 500 overseas students from over 60 countries.

 

In 2007, the discipline of communication engineering in SEIE was approved as one of the first group of feature disciplines by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

At present, the Department of Information and Communication Engineering has 2 national key disciplines (Communication and Information System and Signal and Information Processing); basic teaching is supported by the National Teaching Base for Electrical and Electronic Engineering; specialized courses are taught with the support of the Laboratory of All-optical Network and Modern Communications Network, Laboratory of Railway Science and Technology, Laboratory of GSM-R, Research Center of Optical Fiber Technology and Railway Application Engineering, and Accredited National Joint Laboratory of Electromagnetic Compatibility.

All these provide a good academic environment for developing advanced technical personnel who will possess deep and wide professional knowledge, strong adaptability, ability to perform research, and potential for development, application and management of information and communication technology.
