Materials have been central to all of science and engineering. Advanced materials and the manufacturing technology are of great consequence to modern scientific research, national defense and economy. The research and development of new materials have been one of the pivotal areas in the national science and technology programmes. Environment Engineering and Applied Chemistry are also among those fast developing disciplines in the past decades. The School of Materials Science and Engineering at BUAA aims to educate the students to become general practitioners and specialists with interdisciplinary knowledge.
The School of Electrical Engineering of BeiHang University(originally Department of Electronic Engineering) is of the earliest department of aeronautic electronic engineering founded in China, which has a history of 46 years.
School of Jet Propulsion, originally named Department of Jet Propulsion, was one of the two departments that established in 1952 when BUAA was founded. In October 2002, in order to push on the development of the aviation propulsion technology and the power engineering, adapt to the new subject layout of BUAA, fit into the University-School-Department-Research Groups four class management, established the School of Jet Propulsion on the basis of Department of Jet Propulsion.
The School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation(SMEA) at BeiHang University(BHU) was founded in 1998, based on the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Department of Electromechanical Engineering, with the origins of the specialties of Aircraft Manufacturing, Aircraft Engine Manufacturing Process and Aircraft Instruments, dated back to 1950s.
School of Economics& Management has a long history that dates back to 1956. Over the past several decades, the School has achieved her prestige, and over 4000 students graduated from the school with bachelor, master or Ph.D. degree.
The School of Public Administration of Beihang University was established in 1997, based on original Department of Public Administration, Department of Social Science and Institute of Higher Education.
The Department and the Research Institute constitute an unit to take on multiple tasks on the fields of teaching, scientific research, and engineering programs. Under the leadership of Prof. Yang Weimin, the unit was established in 1985. Since then, adhering to the development principle of Requirements Driving, Engineering Oriented.

The main architect and chief engineers for the recently successfully launched China¡¯s first manned space flight, Shengzhou-5 Spacecraft, are proudly Beihang alumni.
Law School of BUAA came into existence in July 2001. Its predecessor is the Law Department of Humanities and Social Science. At present, there are twenty-one full-time teachers. Among them are three professors, nine associate professors, nine teachers with PhD degree, and two teachers who are pursuing doctoral study.
The School of Instrumentation Scienc & Optoelectronics Engineering(SISOE) , Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was formerly the Department of Measurement Technology & Instrument in the School of Automation Science & Electrical Engineering , the Department of Navigation Guidance & Control , the Institute of Optoelectronics Technology in the School of Aerospace.
