Procedure of Applying for the Residence Permit for Foreign Students

Important Notice: Foreign students please be sure to enter China with X visa

Application for X Visa from the Chinese Embassy in Your Country to Study in China
I. Foreign students with X visa are required to apply for Residence Permit within 30 days upon their entry.
II. Application Procedure:
1. To obtain a letter of introduction or confirming letter for medical examination from the university.
2. To exchange a letter of introduction for physical examination with the letter from the university and the passport at the Bureau of Exit-Entry Administration of the Tianjin Municipal Public Security Bureau (No. 19, Shouan Street, Jinbu Road, Hebei District) from Monday to Friday (No later than 16:00 on Friday)
3.   a. Whoever has not done physical examination should do it at the clinic of Tianjin Airport Health and Quarantine Bureau (No. 6, Pukou Road, Hexi District) in the mornings from Monday to Friday. The Examinee should be examined without eating or drinking anything with the letter of introduction from the Bureau of Exit-Entry Administration, passport and 2 photos.
b. Whoever has done the physical examination should take the health examination record and the letter from the Bureau of Exit-Entry Administration to have the record confirmed in Tianjin Airport Health and Quarantine Bureau (No. 6, Pukou Road, Hexi District) in the afternoons from Monday to Friday.
4. To go to the Bureau of Exit-Entry Administration (No.19, Shouan Street, Hebei District) with the health examination record, passport, letter of applying for Residence Permit from the university, 2 photos, admission notice, JW202 Form and a copy of registration card of living outside the campus to apply for a Residence Permit.
5.  Notice: The above mentioned procedure should be finished within 30 days since the entry, otherwise a fine of 500RMB will be conducted for each exceeding day.
 
Visa for Student's Relatives in Tianjin
1. Relatives of a student may enter China with an L Visa.
2. The relative should show relative certificate when applying for an extension of his L Visa.
3. The expiry date of visa of a relative will not exceed that of the student’s. 
 
Registration for Living outside the Campus for Students and Relatives
I. If a student or the relatives live outside the campus, they should register within 24 hours on their arrival in Tianjin.
II. Procedures of Registering for Living outside the Campus
1. To obtain a letter of introduction from the university on living outside the campus
2. The student himself should go to the affiliated police station with his passport, the letter from university to registers for living outside the campus.
3. When finished the registration, the student keeps the registration card from the police station and a copy should be submitted to the university
4. Notice: The above mentioned procedures should be finished ASAP. Those who failed to will be fined.
