1. Cultivation Aims
This program aims to implement the party's educational line, cultivate qualified personnel who are well developed morally, intellectually and physically, and be suitable for the state's economy development and people's needs.

Special requirements for the training of the doctoral candidates are as follows:

First, adhere to Marxist basic principles and party's basic line, have deep love for our country and have rigorous scientific approach and belief in severing for people.

Second lay a solid theoretical foundation and acquire systematic specified knowledge and fairly good practical ability and to be able to undertake scientific research and complete excellent doctoral dissertation.

2. Duration of the Program
This program generally lasts three-five years.

1) Contemporary Culture and Literature /Culture Study
2) Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literary Writing and Trends.
3) Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature and Folk Culture.

5. Research and Thesis

5.1 After acquiring all the credits (20 or 68) as required, candidates are eligible for conducting research on their doctoral dissertation. The subject of the doctoral dissertation must be related to our country's economy and social development .The doctoral dissertation should be complete independently under guidance of their supervisors and be advanced and creative in the field.

5.2 Candidates should present their topics of their theses and complete the thesis-opening report which must be over 8000 words and the bibliography must be more than 50. There must be 4 professors and 3 associated professors attending the thesis preliminary conference. The periodical reports on their theses must be held during the third term of the second year or the first term in the third year. After consulting the discipline panel and obtaining the approval of the panel, candidates can continue their specific studies and thesis writing.

5.3 The thesis writing should be conducted in accordance with "The Quantification Index on Research Achievements of Shanghai University for Master's and Doctoral Candidates."

5.4 The training exercise program combining mentoring and collective training. Doctorate program led to the establishment of the steering group of students (not less than three members) and the College (department) validation after postgraduate Department reported for the record. Steering Group is an academic group which offers the doctoral students specific guidance and management, with discussion, modification and validation program learning plan, and also examining the implementation of a doctoral degree from the papers that report and the report stage, guiding graduate dissertation.

   A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant
3. Master's degree diploma
   Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
4. Certificate of Chinese language education
   For applying Chinese-medium programs.
5. Letter of recommendation
   From professor or associate professor or equivalents
6. Study plan
   Including study purpose, research interest and research plan in brief.(at least 1 A4 page)
7. Postgraduate school transcript
8. Certificate of HSK
   Certificate of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test)
