1. Training goal
To train professional individuals in fields of Systems Biology who are fully developed on every aspect of personal capabilities and personalities and will contribute to the research of life sciences and development of bio-industry. Graduates will be well educated on the fundamentals and well trained on research skills, with good understanding of the most recent development in the field. They will be capable to conduct independent research to solve theoretical or practical problems. They will be qualified for teaching, researching and technical management positions in high education institutions, research institutions and industries.

5. Thesis requirement
Thesis is the key point of graduate training, is a main way to develop their innovation and trouble shooting capabilities. Following requirements are emphasized.
1. Graduate students should prepare thesis work plan under the instruction of their supervisors. The work plan should included study and research plans at different stages. Students are expected to do extensive literature study, and prepare a review in the related field.
2. Graduate students will select a research project in the related field under the instruction of their supervisor. Project proposal should be submitted at the end of the first school year. The proposal should be reviewed by experts with senior titles, and report to the public.
3. Examination of thesis by supervisor and pre-defense of thesis are emphasized. Those who have not pre-defense or have not passed the pre-defense are not allowed for official defense.
4. The procedures for thesis defense and grant of degree should be standardized. Strictly follow the instructions on "quantification of research results for grant of degree for graduates" by Shanghai University.
