Top↑Program Description

The study period of this Project is preliminarily set at two years with four semesters including a compulsory 30 credits.

I. Program name: Chinese Law;

Period of Study: 2 years

The students in this program will be expected to spend the entire first year in China to complete most of academic courses, while the second year will be
open for internship experience (either in china or other countries).

II. Research directions

Chinese Legal Theory, Chinese Civil and Commercial Jurisprudence, Chinese Constitution and Administrative Jurisprudence, International Jurisprudence

III. Course schedule and credit requirements

Two-year study period with 30 credits in 5 links and a master dissertation, consisting of 6 compulsory courses (18 credits), 5 optional courses (10 credits) and 4 weeks of probation (2 credits).

1. Compulsory courses (6 courses, totally 18 credits)

1) Public Courses

[1] Chinese culture (3 credits)
[2] Chinese language (3 credits), three teaching hours per week, which will be taught by International College of Chinese Studies of Renmin University in the first semester, and by the School of Law in the second semester.

2) Specialized Courses

[1] Introduction to Chinese Law (3 credits)
[2] Administrative and Criminal Jurisprudence (substantive law I) (3 credits)
[3] Civil, Commercial and Economic Jurisprudence (substantive law II) (3
credits)
[4] Procedural Jurisprudence (3 credits)

2. Optional Courses (totally 10 credits for five courses chosen from nine courses)

[1] Property Law (2 credits)
[2] Comparative Land Law and Policy Regulation (2 credits)
[3] Comparative Commercial Law (2 credits)
[4] Labor Law (2 credits)
[5] Chinese Intellectual Property Law (2 credits)
[6] Chinese Criminal Procedure Law (2 credits)
[7] Chinese Economic Jurisprudence (2 credits)
[8] Chinese Legislative and Executive Systems (2 credits)
[9] Chinese Financial Law (2 credits)

IV. Master Dissertation

After successful completion of all items required in the cultivation plan for their respective programs, the Master’s degree postgraduates should, under the supervision of their tutors, write a master dissertation. Only those who have successfully defended their dissertations shall be conferred the master degree.

V. Lawyer probation and social survey (2 credits)

Starting in the third semester with the duration no less than 4 weeks.

  • Foreign nationals, Bachelor degree or above, with recommendations of two associate professors or higher, providing a certificate of competence in English, under 40 years old.

    With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included
  2. Passport photo
    A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant
  3. Undergraduate school transcript
  4. Bachelor's degree diploma
    Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
  5. English proficiency test certificate
    For example, IELTS or TOEFL, only for applicant whose native language is not English.
  6. Two letters of recommendation
    From professor or associate professor or equivalents
  7. Copies of article or papers published
    Sample copies of published academic articles, awards or other research outputs
  8. Personal Statement
    A personal statement indicating education and working experience, research achievements, plans and personal development objectives after graduation.
