Living in Dalian
Dalian is the most open port city in northern China. A winner city of UN Habitat Award, the city, enjoying an agreeable climate, with beautiful natural environment, is known as one of the most popular tourist resorts and one of the best places to live. The city, with a population of 500 million, occupies an area of 12,500 square kilometers. Located at the tip of Liaodong Peninsular, the city is embraced by the ocean in three sides. There is no severe winter and extremely hot summer. The highest temperature in the hottest month of August is no higher than 32 Celsius degree, and the lowest temperature in the coldest month of January is no lower than -16 Celsius degree.
Banking Service and Shopping
Branches of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Communication Bank of China, Pufa Bank, Dalian Commercial Bank, around the campus provide students with convenient banking service of money saving, withdrawing, and money exchange.
Students can shop at either convenient stores on campus or supermarkets of Trust-Mart and New-Mart near to the campus. Bus 23, 901 and 801 connect the campus to the downtown shopping area. Trolley 202 leads to Parkson, Carrefort, Wal-Mart and Hymall in western part of city.
Medical Care and Insurance
Students are responsible for the cost of their own medical care and health insurance. There is a university infirmary on campus. For serious health problem, students may go to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University for treatment. Bus 23, 901, 502, 531 and trolley 202 may lead to the hospital.
If students do not have insurance policy covering their stay in China, they are required to purchase medical and accident insurance in China.
Transportation and Mail Service
The University is located in the southwestern part of the city. It is ten kilometers away from downtown Dalian (railway station and shopping area), 20-25 minutes by bus (Bus 23, 901, and 801) and 15 minutes by taxi; fifteen kilometers away from Dalian International Airport, 25 minutes by taxi.
Mails for international students will be delivered to doorkeeper’s office of Overseas Student Dormitory. Students may go to Hei Shi Jiao Post Office for other mail service.
