Course Description
- Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Events Management - 4 Years (3 Years for Native English Speakers)
- SBC's Division of Events Management runs University of Huddersfield's BA (Hons) Degree in Events Management.
- The full degree may be studied at SBC in Shanghai to receive the University of Huddersfield degree certificate.
- Alternatively, students may study partly in Shanghai and partly in the UK, and receive a degree certificate from one of the nine SBC partner universities.
- Events Management is becoming increasingly important as a specialist field of study. Events are very diverse and can range from small private functions to large scale festivals, sports tournaments, pop concerts, carnivals and international mega-events such as the Olympic Games.
- The course is designed to produce graduates equipped with the skills, knowledge and competence to manage events. This may include venue selection, public safety and crowd control, the provision of catering, staffing, marketing, design and staging, music promotion and sponsorship.

- This course offers a wide range of career opportunities in events and conference management and related fields. There are also employment opportunities in events management and related fields such as charity fundraising, sport, arts and the music industry.
Special Features
- The opportunity to gain practical experience of events management is a key feature of this course. This is achieved by fieldwork visits, volunteer work experience, staging of events on campus and off campus in the final year.
Top↑Entry Requirements
Entry requirements are split into 2 main categories: (A) Academic Requirements and; (B) English Language Requirements. Native-English speakers are generally exempt from the English language requirements and only need to meet the Academic Requirements described in section A.
Section A - Academic Requirements
- SBC Year 1 Entry - Academic Requirements
Applicants to SBC Year 1 usually need to have successfully completed 12 years of school education with satisfactory passes in their leaving examinations.
- SBC Year 2 Entry - Academic Requirements
In general, students should be of sufficient age (at least 18 years old by 30th September in their year of entry to SBC Year 2). In addition to successful completion of 12 years of school education with satisfactory passes in their leaving examinations, direct entry into SBC Year 2 requires academic requirements and English language requirements as below.
Table A summarises the academic requirements for Native English Speakers and Near-Native English Speakers seeking entry into SBC Year 2 leading to bachelors degrees at each of the 9 partner universities. In addition to these academic requirements, Non-Native English Speakers must meet English Language qualifications which are summarised in section B below.

Section B - English Language Requirements
The following section summarises the English language requirements for Non-Native English Speakers seeking entry into SBC leading to bachelors degrees at each of the 9 partner universities. In addition to these English language requirements, Non-Native English Speakers must meet the academic requirements which are summarised in Table A above.
- SBC Year 1 Entry - English Language Requirements
Non-Native English Speakers usually need to have passed the IELTS test and scored at least 5.0 (or TOEFL 500) or equivalent. Applicants may choose to take the SBC entrance exam as an alternative to the IELTS test.
- SBC Year 2 Entry - English Language Requirements
Non-Native English Speakers usually need to have passed the IELTS test and scored at least 6.0 (or TOEFL 550) or equivalent. Performing well in SBC Year 1 is the normal entrance procedure into Year 2 for non-native English speakers.
