Hainan University is new comprehensive school of higher learning officially established with the approval by the Ministry of Education. It is a key university of Hainan Province and is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial Government.
In 2006, Hainan University founded the College of International Cultural Exchange (CICE) in charge of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and Chinese studies as well. That is the important sign of internalization of Hainan University.
