Founded in 1953, Nanjing University of Science & Technology is one of the first group of national key universities. It has an area of 178 hectares and is located in the Zhongshan scenic spot in the ancient capital of the six dynasties.
 

NUST offers 9 post-doctoral programs, 29 doctoral programs, 54 master programs, 52 undergraduate programs, and it also has the right to confer master degree in engineering, MBA and EMBA. The present faculty totals 3,010 among whom 1,420 are professional teachers, 3 are academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 130 are doctoral tutors. The total number of students is 20,070 including 15,860 undergraduates and 4210 postgraduates.
 

The university has fine facilities for both teaching and research. Besides the library with a collection of over 1.2 million volumes of books, all kinds of laboratories are available to students all day long. In recent 20 years, the university attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchange with world prestigeous universities. There are lots of exchange activities for the students both at home and abroad conducted in the university every year. At present, there are more than 50 international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan enrolled at the university.

The School of International Joint Education of Nanjing University of Science and Technology is responsible for recruiting and administering foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as organizing and implementing joint education programs with foreign universities.

At present there are over 400 foreign students and students from more than ten countries including Vietnam, South Korea, Iraq, Ghana, Yemen, Nigeria, Burma, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Since September 1999, Nanjing University of Science and Technology has conducted joint education with Birmingham City University (formerly known as University of Central England), bringing up bachelors of engineering and science in the seven specialties of Electronic Engineering, Communications and Networks, Software Design and Networks, Computer Technology and Electronics, Business Computer Networks, Computer Networks and Security, Information and Communication Technology. In the “2+2” program students study at the School of International Joint Education of Nanjing University of Science and Technology for two years, and then after an interview and visa application to the British authority, they go to Britain for further study for two years. After completing their studies in Britain, they are awarded Bachelor of Science or Engineering by Birmingham City University. Since autumn 2004, the University has conducted joint education with Coventry University. In the 1+1 program students study at the School of International Joint Education of Nanjing University of Science and Technology for one year and then, after an interview and visa application to the British authority, they go to Britain for another year of study. After completing they studies in Britain, they are awarded Master of Science or Engineering by Coventry University.

Since autumn 1999, over 730 students have participated in the 2+2 and 1+1 programs. Over 530 students have completed their studies in China and gone to Britain and over 310 students have successfully completed all their courses and obtained a British BA degree. Most of these students have continued their studies at first-class universities in Britain such as Imperial College, The University of Warwick, and Nottingham University aiming for Master of Science or Engineering degrees.
