Zhejiang Forestry University (ZFU) is able to provide an exclusive tea-bamboo-landscape culture study program, thanks to its ideal geographic location in the Yangtze River Delta and its specialty in tea and bamboo and landscape research. ZFU is situated in the suburb of Hangzhou, the city of paradise, famous for Longjing Tea, bamboo resources and the West Lake. Song Dynasty Master poet, Su Dongpo once put ‘ desirous of me to liken West Lake to a fair lady, desirable is the great tea like a fascinating maiden’. This program is tailor-made to give you a rare chance to explore the three Chinese heritages in depth.
1. Distinguishing Features of This Program
1.1 Combination of knowledge acquirement with field observation. Besides the elite signature classes, you will also be widely exposed to tea culture, bamboo industry and breathtaking landscape, including the spectacular full course of manual production of tea, tea-making, tea culture, tea ceremony, tea art, tea therapy. Participants can also visit the bamboo gallery, bamboo artifacts collection, a bamboo factory and a bamboo plantation as well as the famous world heritage site - Su Zhou Classical Gardens.
1.2 Combination of campus experience and community life. You will be immersed into the dynamic campus life while getting to know what community life is like in China.
1.3 Combination of ecological recreation and metropolitan life. Thanks to its ideal location at the crux between suburb and downtown city, ZFU can make use of both valuable resources in Lin’an and Hangzhou.
2. Overview of This Program
This program includes the following activities:
2.1 Chinese Tea Class. Participants will be acquainted with tea related knowledge such as tea classification, tea pots appreciation, tea art, tea therapy, just name a few.
2.2 Chinese Tea Ballad Performance. It is a flagship tea-themed drama, composed and performed by faculty and students from the school of tea culture, ZFU.
2.3 Tea Gourmandism. Visit to a tea house where different kinds of tea and local snacks are served.
2.4 Tea Culture Exploration. Participants will visit a tea plantation, China Tea Museum, tea production base where they will see the manual processing of tea, tea contest and tea serving art all performed by local tea farmers.
2.5 Visit to Bamboo Gallery at ZFU. One can appreciate the craftsmanship of different bamboo artifacts.
2.6 Tour to Bamboo Factory. One will be informed the status quo of bamboo industry in China and see all kinds of bamboo products.
2.7 Landscape Tour. Suzhou Classical Garden (one of the world’s cultural heritages), Wu Zhen(a southern China water town with enchanting waterways and distinctive architecture)
2.8 Chinese Language Class. Chinese language classes with different levels and different formats will be arranged so that students can improve their Chinese language skills rapidly.
2.9 Chinese Culture Class. Participants will learn about and practise traditional Chinese cultural arts such as Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Tai chi, Floral Arranging etc.
2.10 Hangzhou Tour. Participants will be shown around the city of paradise which is home to Wetland National Park, West Lake, Song Dynasty Town among others.
