Important Reminding Before Doing Application Online

Please make sure you have well prepared scan or photo copies of the following required documents and be aware of the alternative ways to pay for application fee.

Application Fee

PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT YOUR APPLICATION WON’T BE PROCESSED BY THE SCHOOL UNLESS THE APPLICATION FEE IS PAID. YOU WILL GET THE CONFIRMATION LETTER FROM BOTH THE CUCAS APPLICATION SYSTEM AND THE SCHOOL UPON YOUR PAYMENT ARRIVES.

CUCAS offers four kinds of payment methods, and you would find your payment details when you doing application online.

1. PayPal: Payments made through Paypal are safe, easy and convenient. If you have used Paypal in the past, please click the PayPal button on the webpage of "Make Payment" and follow the directions.

2. Bank Transfer (T/T) Overseas: Applicants overseas could find payment details o use bank transfer to pay the application fee in US Dollars.

3. Bank Transfer (T/T) in China: Applicants in China can use a direct bank transfer to pay the application fee in RMB.

4. Western Union: CUCAS recommends applicants who are inconvient with T/T or PayPal payments use Western Union (especially African applicants).


Application Materials

Make sure that you have prepared for the following documents before starting online application. You will be asked to upload attachments when applying.

Undergraduate students

  1. Final schooling certificate
  2. Final  schooling records
  3. Band 4 or above certificate of HSK examination
  4. A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page
  5. Passport-size photo

Master's degree students

  1. Bachelor's degree diploma or gradaute certificate
  2. Academic record
  3. Band 6 or above certificate of HSK examination
  4. A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page
  5. Passport-size photo
  6. Recommendation letters from two scholars of associate professor or higher.
  7. A portfolio of 6 photographic design artworks for those applying for Master’s candidates and visiting students of School of Arts and Design

Doctoral degree students

  1. Master's degree diploma or gradaute certificate
  2. Academic record
  3. Band 6 or above certificate of HSK examination
  4. A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page
  5. Passport-size photo
  6. Recommendation letters from two scholars of associate professor or higher.

Chinese language students

  1. Last schooling certificate
  2. Last schooling records
  3. A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page

Entrance Examination & Admission

1. Undergraduate students

• International students who are 16 or older, having completed their senior high school education or qualified as senior middle school graduates (relevant certificate essential) can enroll in this program.

• After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Student Affairs Office of Yunnan University, applicants will be required to take the entrance examination held by the University. The exams are usually held in mid-August. The exact time will be announced by the University.

• Registration for bachelor's degree program begins in autumn - end of August (bachelor's degree program of Chinese language and culture begins in beginning of March and end of August), with a four-year period of schooling (Students with an associate degree diploma only need to complete two years of schooling. Students from “1+3” and “2+2” partner institutions only need to complete remaining 3 or 2 years of schooling at Yunnan University).

• After four years of schooling, students completing the required courses with qualifying scores, finishing their academic degree theses, getting through thesis oral defense, can be conferred a bachelor's degree and a diploma.

2. Graduate students

Those who apply for graduate program can be admitted if passing the entrance examinations held by the university. 

 
Master's degree program

• International students who are under 50, having completed their undergraduate education (relevant certificate essential), bearing an HSK certificate of Band 6 or above can enroll in this program. Applicants of this program must take an entrance examination specially designed for international students.

• Registration for master's degree program begins in autumn (end of August) with a 3-year period of schooling.

• After 3 years of schooling, students completing the required courses with qualifying scores, finishing their academic degree theses, getting through thesis oral defense, can be conferred a master's degree and a graduate diploma.

Doctorate program

• International students who are under 50, having completed their graduate study (relevant certificate essential), can enroll in this program. Applicants of this program must take an entrance examination specially designed for international students.

• Registration for doctorate program begins in autumn (end of August) with a 3-year period of schooling.

• After 3 years of schooling, students completing the required courses with qualifying scores, finishing their academic degree dissertations, getting through dissertation oral defense, can be conferred a doctorate degree and a doctoral diploma.


3. Associate degree program of Chinese language and culture

• International students who are 16 or older, having completed their senior high school education or qualified as senior middle school graduates (relevant certificate essential) can enroll in this program.

• Registration for associate degree program of Chinese language and culture begins in spring (beginning of March) and autumn (end of August) with a two-year period of schooling.

• Students may send in their application and register in spring and autumn (no entrance examination required). After two years of schooling, students completing the required courses with qualifying scores can be awarded an associate degree diploma of Yunnan University.


4. Visiting students
After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office and the Admission Committee of the department concerned, the admission notice will be issued.

Qualification and Enrollment Information for Non-degree Programs

After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office, the admission notice will be issued. The Foreign Students Affairs Office will issue the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China to the applicants who passed the examination and were approved by the University.

(1) Regular courses of Chinese language and culture

• International students mainly register for the non-degree Chinese programs in spring (end of February) and autumn (end of August).

• Based on the students' Chinese proficiency, they may choose to attend the Elementary Courses, Intermediate Courses or Advanced Courses. Students with special interests may also choose to study by "one on one" (one teacher teaching one student) or "one on two" (one teacher teaching two students) approaches.

 
(2) Short-term Language and Culture Programs, Summer (Winter) Camps

• College of International Students offers short-term group Chinese training courses and summer (winter) camps of Yunnan ethnic culture study for college students and high school students from all over the world, making it ideal for those unable to participate on semester or year-long programs.

• Short-term group Chinese training courses can be organized any time upon requirement (the tuition fee is 20% higher if organized during summer and winter vacations of the Chinese academic calendar). The length of schooling for short-term training courses is negotiable by the students or by the partner institutions. The number of students enrolling in the above-mentioned courses and camps should be no less than five.

(3) Other training programs and study tour programs
• Courses and itinerary can be organized according to the requests of partner institutions. 

Note:
• Those who want to study for a bachelor's degree after completing their elementary Chinese study must take HSK test (Chinese Proficiency Test).
• Those registering for science undergraduate programs must pass Band 3 HSK test, while those registering for liberal art undergraduate programs must pass Band 4 HSK test.


Schooling System

Bachelor’s degree program: 4 years (five years for Architecture)
Master’s degree program: 3 years
Doctoral degree program: 3 - 4 years
Chinese Language student: 1 semester to 2 years
