Hubei University Library is formed since the establishment of Hubei University in 1931. The new library building was completed in 2005 with a total area of 42,051 square meters.

The Library possesses altogether 26 reading rooms of various kinds which can hold over 4600 readers at a time. By the year of 2005, the Library has possessed more than 1,700,000 collections, and 2500 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, 530,000 electronic books, more than 20 kinds of databases, 30,000 kinds of electronic periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages.
