Donghua University (DHU), formerly China Textile University, was founded in 1951. DHU is a key state university, directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is located in Shanghai, with two campuses in Songjiang District and Changling District. Currently there are more than 3,000 faculty and staff, and over 25,000 enrolled students.
Over half a century, DHU has developed into a comprehensive university, with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, law, science, and education. The leading disciplines of Donghua University are Textile, Fashion, Materials and Trade, etc. Academic achievements have found applications in areas such as aeronautics, military science, material development, architecture, and environment protection. The number of patents already granted and currently under application ranks the highest among Chinese colleges and universities.
Donghua University has established cooperation with more than 100 famous universities, research centers and enterprises all over the world. Since 1995, it has been successfully hosting the International Fashion Forum during the Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival. Apart from the 83th World Textile Conference, Donghua University also held many high-leveled international academic conferences such as the International Academic Forum for PhD Students on Textile Science & Engineering, the 25th International Data Engineering Conference, 2009 American Fiber Society Conference, and International Conference on Environmental Science & Technology, etc.
Donghua University started to accept international students as early as 1954. In 2010, there were 3847 international students from 122 countries studying at Donghua University. This number ranks No. 5 in Shanghai and No.11 in China.
