I. Categories and Quotas

1. Class A (Full Scholarship): 10 quotas. Excellent prospective students applying for master or doctoral degree programs. Those do not need to take remedial Chinese courses will have priority.

2. Class B (Partial Scholarship): 20 quotas. Excellent prospective students applying for undergraduate, master, or doctoral degree programs. Those do not need to take remedial Chinese courses will have priority.

II. Scholarship Awards

1. Class A (Full Scholarship): Exempt from tuition, fees associated with basic academic materials and accommodation. Insurance for serious diseases and major accidental injuries. Doctoral degree students can enjoy this award for 3 years, with monthly living allowance of 2000RMB; Master degree students for 2.5 years, with monthly living allowance of 1700RMB. If the student has to have remedial Chinese courses, this scholarship duration will extend one more year.

2. Class B (Partial Scholarship): Exempt from tuition and fees associated with basic academic materials. Doctoral degree students can enjoy this award for 3 years, master students for 2.5 years, and undergraduate students for 4 years. If the student has to have remedial Chinese courses, the scholarship duration will extend one more year.

III. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.

2. Education background and age limit:
-  Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40;
-  Applicants for master degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35;
-  Applicants for undergraduate studies must have completed senior high school and be under the age of 25.

3. Outstanding in academic study and daily performance.

4. Not been awarded any other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.

IV.  Application Materials

1. Class A

(1) Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS, Class A)

(2) Photocopy of valid ordinary passport

(3) Additional application materials required for:

Doctoral degree program applicants

a) Master degree diploma and transcript. Both documents should be original copies in Chinese or English with the signature of the president and the stamp of the graduated university. Notarized translated copies in Chinese or English are also acceptable.

b) Study plan in English or Chinese with applicant’s signature. Information such as basic personal information, education background, working experience, and interested research projects and research plan if were accepted as the doctoral student should be included.

c) 2 recommendation letters in English or Chinese. The writers could be professor or associated professor who once taught the applicant in master program, the manager whose subordinate the applicant once to be, or any authority who knows the applicant well.

Master's degree program applicants

a) Bachelor degree diploma and transcript. Both documents should be original copies in Chinese or English with the signature of the president and the stamp of the graduated university. Notarized translated copies in Chinese or English are also acceptable.

b) Study plan in English or Chinese with applicant’s signature. Information such as basic personal information, education background, working experience, and interests research projects and research plan if were accepted as the master student should be included.

c) 2 recommendation letters in English or Chinese. The writers could be professor or associated professor who once taught the applicant in undergraduate program, the manager whose subordinate the applicant once to be, or authority who knows the applicant well.

* If the original copy of diploma is in English or Chinese, electric copy or photocopy is acceptable in application.

(4) Copy of HSK Certificate Level 5 or above obtained in the last 2 years is required if the courses are instructed in Chinese.

(5) Applicants for artistic-design related majors should submit 2 recent works, which should be original works of the applicants with one in pencil sketch and the other in watercolor.

* Admitted students of artistic-design related majors have to have the paining examination, which includes pencil sketch and watercolor, arranged by the University right before the registration. If the result of the exam is much worse than 2 works submitted in the application, the University will refuse to enroll the students.

(6) Other related certificate or documents. 

* International Cultural Exchange School needs to check the original copy of HSK certificate and diploma. If they does not consist with the photocopy or electric copy submitted in the application, the University will refuse to enroll the student.

2. Class B

Undergraduate program applicants

a) High School Certificate and transcript. Both documents should be original copies in Chinese or English with the signature of the principal and the stamp of the graduated high school. Notarized translated copies in Chinese or English are also acceptable.

b) Study plan in English or Chinese with applicant’s signature. Information such as basic personal information, education background, application objectives, and study plan should be included.

c) Copy of HSK Certificate Level 3 or above obtained in the last 2 years is required if the courses are instructed in Chinese.

* If the original copy of diploma is in English or Chinese, electric copy or photocopy is acceptable in application.

V. Application Deadline and Review

1. Applicants should submit the complete application materials mentioned above to Admissions & Development Dept. of International Cultural Exchange School of Donghua University (ICES-DHU) before June 15.

2. The application package of qualified applicants will first be transferred to related schools or colleges for review, then to be forwarded to Donghua University Review Committee on Scholarship for International Students (RCSIS-DHU) for the final decision of the scholarship recipient. Face to face interview may be requested if it’s necessary.

3. ICES will issue the Admission Notice and Form of Visa Application for Study (JW202) to the scholarship recipient in the middle of the July based on the final decision of the Committee. If the scholarship recipient fails to register at ICES on time, he/she will be regarded as abandonment of the scholarship automatically.

4. Scholarship recipient should participate in the Scholarship Annual Review at the beginning of every July. RCSIS-DHU will perform a comprehensive review of scholarship recipient’ academic records, learning attitude, performance, rewards or punishment received. Student is qualified to enjoy the scholarship in the following academic year if he/she passed the annual review. The scholarship will be terminated if he/she fails.

5. The review results will be reported to Shanghai Municipal Education Commission for archive after the annual review.

VI. The interpretation of this Detailed Rules for the Implementation belongs to Donghua University Review Committee on Scholarship for International Students. Any ambiguity or mistake in this English version, please refer to the Chinese version.

IV. Excellent New Student Scholarship under the President Scholarship

I.  Quota and Awards

1. Applicants' description: excellent self-funded international students willing to pursuing bachelor’s degree program learning at Donghua University.

2. Quotas: 20 available

3. Awards: full tuition exemptions (first prize) or half tuition exemptions (second prize) in their first semester.

II. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.

2. Have completed senior high school and be under the age of 25.

3. Outstanding in academic study and daily performance.

4. Not been awarded any other scholarships such as CSC or SGS at the same time.

III. Application Materials

(1) Application Form for International Students Studying at Donghua University (DHU)

(2) Photocopy of valid ordinary passport

(3) High school diploma copy & official transcript (must be original copies in Chinese or English with the signature of the president and the stamp of the graduated university. Notarized translated copies in Chinese or English are also acceptable)

(4) Study plan in English or Chinese with applicant’s signature, including information such as basic personal information, education background, and purpose of study.

(5) Copy of HSK Certificate Level 3 or above obtained in the last 2 years is required if the courses are instructed in Chinese.

* If the original copy of diploma is in English or Chinese, electric copy or photocopy is acceptable in application.

(6) Applicants for artistic-design related majors should submit 2 recent works, which should be original works of the applicants with one in pencil sketch and the other in watercolor.

Freshmen Scholarship for The Bachelor's Degree Program in English

Application for Scholarship is available for newly-enrolled outstanding foreign students and is limited to 5 quotas in each country of recruitment by CIP.

Requirement
Achieving IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL (PBT) 550 and above (or equivalent), and outstanding high school performance.、

Awards
Scholarship winner will receive tuition waiver up to 50% of the 1st semester’s tuition.

Application Process
CIP will review through all documents submitted and arrange for an interview with applicant. Successful applicant will be notified after the interview and should register within the given timeframe. If an applicant does not register in time for the Semester, it will be deemed as giving up the Scholarship Award and this Scholarship Award shall not be transferrable to 3rd party.
