The Buildings in Songjiang Campus

Located in the New District of Songjiang, Songjiang Campus of Donghua University is situated at the northeast part of the College Park of Songjiang with Sheshan National Tourist Resort on the north, and the town of Songjiang, on the south. College Park of Songjiang is 30 kilometers from downtown Shanghai and boasts very convenient traffic service with Hu-Hang Expressway, Hu-Qing-Ping Expressway, National Highway No. 318 and others. Track Transportation No. 9 is also under construction.

Songjiang Campus occupies an area of about 1500 mu. Its construction began from Oct. 2002. In Sep. 2003, Songjiang Campus accepted its first batch of students of the year 2003. Up to Sep. 2004, the Library and Information Center, Classroom Building, Experiment Building and Student Activity Center with the total area of 170,000 m2 have been completed. In 2005 the construction of Songjiang Campus will come to an end with the total construction area of up to 300,000 square meter.

Much attention has been paid to humanism during the construction of Songjiang Campus. It will be built into an ecological, humanitarian, information-oriented and modern college campus absorbing the features of the gardens of the South and the styles of modern buildings which form the uniqueness of Donghua University.

Classroom Buildings and Experiment Building

Classroom buildings occupy an area of about 50,000 square meter with 152 big and small classrooms capable of accommodating 10,000 students for lectures. Now there are 52 multi-media classrooms, 29 big classrooms and 6 large classrooms for 250 students. Computers, overhead projectors, exhibition table, local network, acoustic equipments are provided for the teachers to enrich their teaching. That is widely welcomed by the students.

Multipurpose Experiment Building occupies an area of 13,000 m2 with 9 language labs of the College of Foreign Languages, Electronic Circuit Laboratory of the College of Information and Physics Laboratory of the College of Science.

Chemical Experiment Building has an area of 6,500 m2 with all kinds of pipes in different floors, excellent ventilation and all necessary experiment facilities. It provides a good environment for the students of the colleges of textile, chemical industry and materials to conduct experiments.

Library and Information Center

There are library, computing center, local network center and conference center.

The library of Songjiang Campus occupies an area of up to 16,000 m2 in which, according to the plan, there will be 450,000 books, near one thousand kinds and over ten thousand volumes of journals of China and other countries and 80 newspapers. It has been linked with the library of Yan'an Road Campus for the sake of sharing information. As a member unit of CALIS (China Academic Library & Information System), the libraries of our school possess abundant electronic resources and CD database of network version and can provide the students with the services of book borrowing, reference consultation, on-line retrieving, inter-library borrowing and documents transferring, etc.

The computer center now has 9 rooms with nearly 1000 computers to meet the need of whole university.

Student Activity Center

Student Activity Center has now an activity and conference center and art rehearsal area with 40 rooms. Education supermarket, Xinhua bookstore, mess hall, post office and ATMs are provided in the public service area while in the leisure and entertainment area there is a theatre with 1000 seats to satisfy the requirements of work, study, and entertainment of the students.

The sole motto of the center is to work for the benefits of all students.

Dormitory of Students

The students of our school will live in the student apartments of the Phase II Project of Oriental Pearl. Add: Lane 300, Wenhui Road. Every four students share one apartment equipped with balcony, electric fan and telephone. There are public lavatories on each floor while the public bathrooms are on the first floor.

Commercial centers and transportation

There are industrial and commercial bank, post office, various kinds of shops and restaurants in Wenhui Road (Students' Street).

On two-day weekends there are buses from the College Park of Songjiang to downtown. Every day the buses No.3, No.4 and No.8 in the college park provide the students much convenience.
