The First Kazan Chinese Contest Held by HNU Confucius Institute

State University (KSU), Russia, after a preparation of nearly two months. It was hosted by HNU Confucius Institute at KSU and greatly supported by KSU, Kazan Institute Of Finance and Economics, Tatar State University of Humanities and Education.25 contesters from KSU, evening class of HUN Confucius Institute at KSU, Kazan Institute Of Finance and Economics,Tatar State University of Humanities and Education etc. participated in the contest.

To ensure the contest a success one, the First Kanzan Chinese Contest Committee was established, which was headed by Vladimir S. Bukhmin Pro-Rector for Teaching of KSU and made up of Dr. Gabdulzymil Zaynulling, Russian Director of HNU Confucius Institute at KSU, Gao Rongguo, Chinese Director of HNU Confucius Institute at KSU, Jiang Xiaoyan from China National Institute for Educational Research ,Han Yong, council member of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Li Aiming,  Confucius Institute teacher from China, and Gu Zeli, Chinese teacher of Oriental College at KSU. Hama Nova,   Director of Teaching and Research Office, KSU attended the opening ceremony and made an address on behalf Pro-Rector Vladimir S. Bukhmin. Gabdulzymil Zaynulling expressed his gratitude to all participants and judges. All faculties of Oriental College of KSU, Chinese majors from Tatar State University of Humanities and Education and Kazan Institute Of Finance and Economics and students from No.18 Middle School of Kazan City taking Chinese as an elective course, a total of more than 200 people watched the contest at the site.

Gao Rongguo, Jiang Xiaoyan, Han Yong, Li Aiming, Gu Zeli worked as members of the judging committee. They had an overall evaluation of contesters' pronunciation, intonation, content of speech, speaking skills and their performance in talent show. Zheng Ying, a Chinese Student in Russia and Escondile ,sophomore of International Relationship Department in KSU hosted the contest.　

Contesters are divided into three groups: The high-grade group, the sophomore group and the low-grade group. On the morning of April 1st, the speaking contest was held in the special classroom of Confucius Institute .In that afternoon, talent show and Chinese cultural knowledge quizzes took place in the little hall "Уникс”, culture centre of KSU.

The contest consists of three parts. The first part is a 3-5 minute Chinese Speech; the second part is Chinese cultural knowledge quizzes (each contester had to answer two questions about Chinese culture); and the third part is talent show. The first place winner of senior group, Nazaluowayina, from International Relationship Department in KSU impressed the judges and the audience by the terrific content, standard pronunciation, and great skills in her speech. The third place winner of sophomore group, Sylla Nova Sorokina told the moving story of Butterfly Lovers in fluent Chinese. The culminating point of the contest was the popular Chinese song genuine Feelings, Genuine Love  passionately sang by  the first prize winner of low-grade  group, Thomoph Alexander, a junior majoring in Economic Management from  Kazan Institute Of Finance and Economics. Moreover, the audience appreciated the charm of Chinese Kungfu, while watching Tai Chi performed by Ravine  Vladimir Malat ,who studied in Confucius Institute. There first prizes, four second prizes and four third prizes were set in this contest. The Contest Committee presented a souvenir to every contester and awarded prizes and certificates to winners after the contest.

The First Kazan Chinese Contest attracted college students in Kazan to learn Chinese and provided chances for Chinese teachers and learners in College to communicate with each other. Contesters thanked HNU Confucius Institute at KSU to provide them with opportunities of self-display and self-test, declaring that they would get better prepared and strive for greater achievements in next year's contest.
