Introduction
On this programme, you will learn how individuals are managed within an organisational context. You will be introduced to current HRM theory and practice and encouraged to think creatively and critically about the role of HRM within the wider business world. You will acquire a range of intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills which are relevant to the field and develop an understanding of the frameworks used to manage employer/employee relationships.
What knowledge and skills will I acquire? By the time you graduate, you should:
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of management theory and practice;
- understand the legal frameworks concerned with the employment of people, and the implications which these have for HRM policies and functions;
- demonstrate an appreciation of the ways in which individuals, groups and organisations learn and be able to relate this to individual and organisational development strategies;
- understand the challenges of changing work patterns and environments for human resource management.
What are my career prospects?
HRM professionals work in every sector of the economy and so you have many job opportunities available to you when you graduate. You may also choose to pursue further study in the form of a specialised masters, MBA or professional qualifications.
What will I study?
At level 1, you will develop a broad understanding of business principles through the study of:
- organisations and management
- fundamentals of marketing
- finance
- financial accounting and accounting theory
- economic principles
- employment relationships
You may also choose from options in consumer behaviour and international business and management.
At level 2, you will build on this foundation and learn about:
- corporate social responsibility
- learning, training and development
- international management
- business and employment law
- leadership and performance management
- market research
You may also choose from options in areas such as finance and marketing.
In your final year, you will undertake a substantial research project, spanning both semesters. Alongside your project, you will learn more about managing knowledge and marketing. You will also learn about:
- strategic management, human resource development and business policy
- HRM in the public sector, and
- decision making

Academic Requirements:
The University accepts a wide variety of school, college and foundation qualifications such as A-Level, AS-Level, IB and other equivalent overseas qualifications.
English Language Requirements:
All students must have acceptable English language qualifications to study at the University. Various English qualifications are acceptable including:
- IELTS 5.5 for year 1 entry , or 6.5 for advanced standing; or
- TOEFL 520 (paper-based), or 190 (computer-based) or 75 (iBT) for year 1 entry; or
- TOEFL 570 (paper-based), or 230 (computer-based) or 88 (iBT) for advanced standing, or
- XJTLU English test.

- Passport photo
A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant
- English proficiency test certificate
For example, IELTS or TOEFL, only for applicant whose native language is not English.
- Letter of recommendation
From professor or associate professor or equivalents
- High school academic transcript
- High school graduate certificate
Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
